Let us start!
1. Fast Bowling Tips: Choose Your style
When you start fast bowling, you have got plenty number of styles that you can bowl. These range from closed-arm bowls, full-arm bowls, and side bowls. The best example of a closed-arm bowler is Hardik Pandya. There is a folding of arms, and then, swinging the arm to deliver it.
The best example of a full-arm bowler is Bumrah. He puts the arms to full length, then there is a swing, and the ball is delivered.
The best example of side bowls, as you must have guessed, is Malinga. This way is not usually used and is not prescribed as only some, like the great Malinga, can do it, with such perfection.
Now let us discuss the two main bowling styles in detail, that is, closed-arm bowling and full-arm bowling.
Fast Bowling Tips: Closed-arm bowling:
Closed-arm bowling is not only easy to get along with, but it is also even easier to learn. There is also a big advantage, that, like Bhuveneshvar Kumar, you can hide the shine of the bowl. This will help you get your batsman by surprise and then get his wicket. Also, you can modify your styles here and there such that it looks more graceful and fierce, and also, hard for the batsman to read and hit it.
Fast Bowling Tips: Full arm bowling:
Full arm bowling is a bit harder to learn, as compared to closed-arm bowling, as, you have to make a full swing on the bowl which drains a lot more energy. But do you know, even I use this type of bowling, as, it looks more fierce? As more energy gets concentrated here, the bowl goes faster as compared to the closed-arm bowls.
In the end, I leave the decision to you, whether you choose which style. Good luck on that.
Now that you know which style you are going to use, start practicing.
2. Fast Bowling Tips: Your Run-up
Now, we can deliver a bowl. But what will it start with? The answer to that question is your run-up. We have seen many run-ups, all over the world, where, some are very long, some start long, but get a pace before a short distance is left, and some even take short run-ups.
If you want to take my tip for choosing your run-up, then it will always be a long run-up. Neither too long nor too short.
Now you would say me, that what does the run-up really matters to us at all? I Can stand and deliver a ball also! But, think my friend, that when your run, you get the momentum. The momentum you gained is passed on to the bowl via the proper jump. If you want to know how much the run-up contributes to your bowling speed and accuracy, measure the speed with your best run-up and the bowl where you stand and deliver.
I am pretty sure that the one where you took a long run-up, the speed would exceed the next one by a minimum of 20-20 km per hour! Now that is an important thing.
So take the tip. Make a good run-up. Always take your best run-up and try to revert your energy towards your hand. I bet that your balling skills will become far better.
3. Fast Bowling Tips: Your Jump
Now you start with a wonderful run-up. Now, you cannot just transfer all your energy by just running fast and throwing the ball! You will need a jump, that will speed up your speed, and also, will help you carry your force towards your hands.
This is a very important thing to do. But even the important thing is to do it perfectly. You can make a high jump, but that will not help you at all, except for welcoming sprains. So, when you arrive at the pitch, make a 30-40 degrees jump towards the batsman. You will jump and then, as soon as you land, you will be swinging your arms, which will get the ball going to the batsman at top speed.
4. Fast Bowling Tips: Your Hand Movement
Okay, now, you will have a fast run-up and have a great jump. But what will the ball be, if you do not throw it perfectly? Now the question is, that now we have to swing the ball. When will we swing our hands?
The answer is, that, as soon as you will land on the pitch, you will be swinging your arms. This is because when we land, there will be enough momentum for you. Also, the jerk of touching the ground will trigger the swing to make it even better.
5. Fast Bowling Tips: How to practice
Now that you know that what is your style, about your run-up, jump, and hand movement, you should start practicing. Okay. But how to practice in the first place?
So, listen to me. Start believing in yourselves. First, you start bowling in your own place by just swinging your arms on the place. This will be the kind of stretching that will also improve your muscle memory. You must swing with full power, at least 100 times.
When you are done with the swinging practice, you will start with the actual bowling. You will get a place for yourself. At first, you will only keep the stumps, and also, there should not be any batsman to bat. This is because, whenever the batsman will hit you, your self-esteem will get low. Now bowl.
When you get used to your style, start with the advanced practice. Put a mat kind of thing on the place where you will bowl. This may be a yorker, a bouncer, a good length bowl, or anything you would like to bowl. You will maintain your full pace, and aim to bowl at that place only.
When you will do these practices for some days, you will get better at bowling a lot. Not, you can start bowling to batsmen for knowing how you are doing. Also, you will start knowing your weak points. Have a good time practicing.
